This paddle was nicknamed the “disciplinarian” as it coaches you to paddle correctly by forcing the use of core muscles to generate power as opposed to relying on your arms. The all-carbon, concave blade is the reason. OC paddlers who have a habit of yanking their bottom arm soon notice how this paddle just wobbles and flutters when pulled. Even if you think you aren’t yanking the paddle it tells you when you are. Clean water grab…longer stroke…longer travel…lower RPM... It’s like having a coach in your hands giving you real time feedback on every stroke.
The paddle feels like a much bigger paddle in the water. The concave blade catches and holds water like no other paddle and soon gets you driving the canoe with your core and entire body. A proper catch and a slower but stronger stroke rate is required with this paddle. As Johnny Puakea says repeatedly in his coaching videos...“be patient in the water.”
